Support tanks – size matters
Due to financial reasons you will often find very small detergent tanks on the market. There is little information available about the problems these “bird baths” are causing. Since we were often confronted with this issue we are glad to give you information about this.
“A small detergent tank will be enough for a small keg-system.” It is often unmentioned that this assumption is not correct. The smaller containers, starting at 80 litres – also called a “bird bath” – seem convenient at first sight, but the rapid wear of the tank’s content is quickly noticeable. A small keg-system also requires an economically and environmentally viable cleaning and this is simply not possible with those small tanks.
A tank should have at least 100 litres
The main problem is the frequent circulation of the content in the small containers. Especially detergents on a caustic basis are having a quick wear through carbonation. The higher caustic consumption as well as the more frequently tank cleaning does not only costs money, but also pollutes the environment. It has to be mentioned, that with regards to the carbonation the wear strongly depends on the pre-rinsing process. Even for the smallest systems a tank for at least 100 litres is recommendable. At a higher performance the capacity should be increased accordingly.
To reduce wear
The wear caused by detergents in a 200 litre tanks is generally about 30 percent higher compared to the wear in a 300 litres tank. For this figures it is assumed that the pre-rinsing processes are the same. So it is possible to make sure that the quality of the content stays on a high level longer and to avoid a too frequent exchange of the detergent. Thus the efforts and costs connected to this can be saved.
Our system
All our machines designed to process up to 30 kegs per hour with integrated tanks have a capacity of more than 100 litres. Our external tank systems are available starting at 300 litres and more. Similar tanks with only 80 litres have been offered on the market. In addition we are offering an option for big keg-systems that allows a CIP cleaning directly from the support tanks.
